Our Programs . . .
Advocates pairs homeless or at-risk families with a "Family
Advocate" who helps them to identify the problems standing in their
way and find creative solutions
The programs require a two-year commitment from participants to
work seriously toward personal self-sufficiency and economic
independence.
Transitional Housing is . . .
A two-year structured program is designed for families who are
currently or imminently homeless (i.e. living in a shelter or place
not meant for human habitation) to gain self-sustainability and
independence through services, resources, and support. Eligible
families live in a transitional housing unit for a maximum of
two-years while participating in the program. The monthly housing
fee is based on income.
Families Forward is . . .
A two-year structured and preventative program for families
at-risk of homelessness, and are 50% beneath the median income for
the Washington, D.C. Metro area. Eligible families receive services
and support, and access to resources to strengthen
self-sustainability and independence.
Services Provided . . .
- Access to higher education and/or career training
- Weekly life skills workshops
- Monthly support groups
- Intensive case management meetings, weekly, with Family Advocate
- Network of community resources
- Volunteer mentoring
